From the outset, Sundowns displayed their intent, with Sphelele Mkhulise finding the back of the net just six minutes into the match, showcasing his composure in front of goal. Head coach Manqoba Mngqithi made tactical adjustments by reintroducing Bafana Bafana stars Khuliso Mudau and Teboho Mokoena to the starting XI, bolstering the squad after their absence in previous fixtures.

As the game progressed, Royal AM’s defense held firm, frustrating Sundowns for much of the first half. Sundowns’ goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was called into action just before halftime, delivering a crucial save from a long-range effort, maintaining his team’s narrow lead.

The second half saw Sundowns push for more, and they finally doubled their advantage five minutes from time. Mudau capitalized on a loose ball inside the box, delivering a clinical finish that seemed to secure the points for Masandawana.

Royal AM managed to pull one back in stoppage time, with defender Sbangani Zulu rising above the Sundowns defense to head home from a corner, but it was too little, too late.

With this victory, Mamelodi Sundowns look ahead to a challenging away match against Polokwane City on Sunday, while Royal AM will aim to regroup and bounce back at home against Sekhukhune United on Saturday. As the league heats up, the chase for supremacy intensifies, and Sundowns remain a formidable force in their quest for yet another title.
