Kaizer Chiefs legend Siyabonga Nomvethe has thrown his support behind reported transfer target Fiston Mayele, describing the Congolese forward as the ideal solution to the club’s long-standing goal-scoring struggles.
Nomvethe, affectionately known as “Bhele”, praised Mayele’s qualities and urged Amakhosi to make a serious move for the Pyramids FC striker.
“You have to work hard to find a striker. You need someone who gives 100%, who wants to grow and improve,” Nomvethe told FarPost.
It’s not easy to get the right striker, but Chiefs must go all out. When you look at this African guy [Mayele], he’s got everything. He just needs the right support around him.”
The former Bafana Bafana star also expressed his joy over Kaizer Chiefs finally ending their 10-year trophy drought by winning the 2024/25 Nedbank Cup, a moment he believes could be a turning point for the club.
“I was happy when the team lifted the trophy. It had been 10 years without silverware,” he said.
“It was a massive moment. Chiefs had become the punchline of local football, and it’s tough playing for a club that people no longer take seriously.
Yes, there are ups and downs, but what the team did showed real character and a hunger to restore pride.”
With renewed belief and fresh silverware in the cabinet, Chiefs will be hoping to build momentum, and perhaps, bring in Mayele to lead the line in the upcoming season.
