The DHL Stormers delivered a statement performance in Cape Town, defeating the Hollywoodbets Sharks in a thrilling United Rugby Championship coastal derby on 10 October to end the Durban side’s unbeaten start to the season.
The Sharks arrived at DHL Stadium full of confidence after winning their opening two matches against the Ospreys and defending champions Leinster. However, the Stormers were determined to bounce back after their narrow defeat to Edinburgh and make the most of playing in front of their home supporters.
The return of several Springboks added extra excitement to the encounter, with Damian Willemse, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Cobus Reinach and Siya Kolisi among the key players expected to make an impact. Feinberg-Mngomezulu played a leading role as the Stormers produced a performance that brought their supporters to their feet.
For the Stormers, the victory was about more than just points on the log. The Cape side had lost both meetings against the Sharks during the previous URC season, making this an opportunity to respond and restore local bragging rights.
The Sharks, meanwhile, will need to regroup after seeing their winning run come to an end. Their opening victories showed their potential, but this derby highlighted how difficult it can be to maintain momentum against quality opposition away from home.

With the URC season still in its early stages, both South African sides have plenty to play for. The Stormers will look to build on this result, while the Sharks will be eager to respond in their next outing.
One thing is certain: when these coastal rivals meet, there is always more at stake than the final score. Pride, bragging rights and valuable league points make every encounter a battle worth watching.
