The 20-year-old has become a standout figure in the Buccaneers squad since making his debut in the 2022/23 season. Known affectionately by fans as “President yama2k,” Mofokeng’s back-to-back PSL Young Player of the Season awards have only added to the growing hype around him.
His recent performances have reportedly caught the attention of overseas clubs, including a team in Israel and Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, the same team that recently signed fellow Pirates talent, Mohau Nkota.
Speaking at the Betway Premiership launch, Ouaddou admitted he was aware of the speculation but remained hopeful the club can keep hold of their rising star.

“I’ve seen the rumours, when you’re that talented, interest will come,” Ouaddou told the media. “But I trust my board. Mofokeng is a key player for us this season, and we need him to compete at the highest level.”
He added: “In football, you never know what can happen, but as of now, I’ve received no updates. So I’m still confident he will stay.”
Mofokeng recently featured for the full 90 minutes in Pirates’ MTN8 quarterfinal win over Polokwane City, helping the team advance to the semi-finals, another reminder of his importance to the squad.
For now, the starlet remains in black and white, but with European and Middle Eastern clubs circling, Pirates fans will be watching closely.
