In a historic triumph, Kagiso Rabada’s exceptional bowling performance propelled South Africa to a seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Mirpur, marking the Proteas’ first Test win in Asia in ten years. Rabada’s match figures of 9 for 72 were instrumental in dismantling the Bangladeshi batting lineup, sealing the win on Day 4.

The Test match was a rollercoaster of momentum, starting with Bangladesh opting to bat first and being bowled out for a mere 106 runs. South Africa faced a challenging Day 1, finishing at 140/6, with the pitch offering unpredictable turn and bounce.
However, Kyle Verreynne’s resilience shone through as he crafted a vital century, helping South Africa establish a healthy 202-run lead. Rabada then returned with renewed intensity in Bangladesh’s second innings, quickly sending Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shadman Islam, and Monimul Haque back to the pavilion. With Bangladesh reeling at 112/6, the prospect of an innings defeat loomed large.
Just when it seemed the Proteas would wrap things up swiftly, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and debutant Jaker Ali launched a remarkable 138-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Miraz fell just short of a century, dismissed by Rabada after contributing significantly to Bangladesh’s total of 307, leaving the Proteas with 106 runs to chase for victory.
South Africa’s openers, Tony de Zorzi and Aiden Markram, set a brisk pace in the chase. Though Markram fell for 20 to Taijul Islam, de Zorzi’s aggressive start, featuring seven boundaries, put the Proteas in a strong position. Tristan Stubbs finished the match with an unbeaten 30, securing a memorable win under challenging conditions.
This victory lifts the Proteas to fourth place in the World Test Championship standings. The series will continue with the second and final Test set to take place in Chattogram on October 29.
