Mamelodi Sundowns continued their record-breaking form in the 2024/2025 Betway Premiership season, dismantling Orlando Pirates 4-1 to extend their lead at the top of the table to nine points.

The defending champions were ruthless from the outset, racing to a 2-0 lead by halftime with goals from Grant Kekana and Lucas Ribeiro Costa. The second half saw Sundowns complete the rout with a brace from Costa and a thunderous long-range strike from Teboho Mokoena, sealing a dominant victory for the Tshwane giants.
In addition to the commanding win, Sundowns set a new PSL record, scoring 35 goals in just 15 league games—breaking the previous record of 31 goals set by Kaizer Chiefs during the 2004/05 season. That Chiefs side went on to clinch the league title, edging Pirates by just two points.
Now, Sundowns stand tall as the league’s most prolific side at the halfway point of the 30-game campaign.
Defensively, Sundowns have also been a force to be reckoned with, conceding the least number of goals in the league (just 6) and boasting an impressive goal difference of +29. Their only defeat of the season came in October 2024, a narrow 1-0 loss to Polokwane City, but they have otherwise been imperious in their pursuit of another title.
With an attack that’s firing on all cylinders and a solid defense to match, Sundowns continue to look unstoppable as they break records and march confidently towards another championship.
