AmaZulu FC co-coach Arthur Zwane has expressed his frustration with his players following their disappointing 4-2 defeat to Sekhukhune United in a Betway Premiership clash on Sunday.

The Durban-based side traveled to Polokwane’s Old Peter Mokaba Stadium hoping to close the gap between themselves and the top four in the league standings. AmaZulu took an early lead, with Etiosa Ighadaro putting them 1-0 up just four minutes into the match.
However, Sekhukhune quickly responded, as in-form Andy Boyeli found the back of the net in the 24th minute to level the scores. The second half saw former Mamelodi Sundowns player Keletso Makgalwa give Sekhukhune the lead, but AmaZulu’s Elmo Kambindu equalized in the 78th minute, making it 2-2.
With less than 10 minutes to go, the match swung in Sekhukhune’s favor as captain Linda Mntambo netted a brace, sealing the 4-2 victory for the home side under coach Lehlohonolo Seema.
After the match, Zwane didn’t hold back in his criticism of his team, pointing to defensive mistakes that have been plaguing AmaZulu’s recent performances.
It’s really concerning. As defenders, we know we’ve been conceding unnecessary goals,” Zwane said. “We can’t keep conceding goals like this, especially against teams like Sekhukhune. This is something we really need to work on.
The co-coach emphasized how frustrating it was to watch his team give away goals in such careless fashion. “Look at how we conceded today—sloppy defending. It’s unacceptable,” he added.

Zwane, who is usually protective of his players, made it clear that the team can’t afford to continue with such poor defensive play if they want to improve. “I’m someone who usually defends my players, but we can’t go on like this. We can’t keep conceding goals and expect to be a better team.”
He also took responsibility as a coach but urged his players to step up and take accountability. “We take responsibility as coaches, but the players also need to come to the party.”
AmaZulu are currently sitting in eighth place on the league table with 23 points from 18 matches. Coach Zwane will be hoping his side can bounce back quickly when they face 15th-placed Magesi FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday at 20:00.
The match will be a crucial opportunity for AmaZulu to get back on track as they continue to chase a spot in the top half of the table.
