The Proteas have secured a 2–1 ODI series victory over Australia, showing plenty of character against the reigning world champions on home soil.
South Africa won the opening two matches in Durban and Johannesburg to seal the series before Australia claimed a consolation victory in the rain-affected third ODI in Potchefstroom.
The second ODI was particularly impressive, with Temba Bavuma and David Miller both hitting centuries as the Proteas posted 365/9 at the Wanderers. South Africa eventually won by 32 runs to take an unassailable 2–0 lead.
Australia avoided a clean sweep in the final match, winning by 45 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method after rain interrupted South Africa’s chase. Ryan Rickelton was unbeaten on 71 when the match was stopped.
For the Proteas, the series provides valuable momentum ahead of the 2027 Cricket World Cup, which South Africa will co-host with Zimbabwe and Namibia. Captain Bavuma also highlighted the confidence gained from getting players back into international cricket and building momentum.
With the ODI series now in the books, attention turns to the three-match Test series against Australia, beginning in Durban on 9 October.
The Proteas will be hoping to carry their winning momentum into the longer format.
