Mbekezeli Mbokazi has made a welcome return to action for Chicago Fire after spending almost three months on the sidelines with a thigh injury.
The Bafana Bafana defender returned to the starting lineup against Charlotte FC on Saturday and played 80 minutes as Chicago Fire secured a 1-0 away victory.
Mbokazi had initially been ruled out for the remainder of the 2026 MLS season after suffering the injury in July. However, his recovery progressed quicker than expected, allowing the 21-year-old to return to the field sooner than anticipated.
His return will be a major boost for Chicago Fire as they continue their push in MLS. Mbokazi had already established himself as an important part of the team’s defence before his injury, starting 12 league matches earlier in the season.
After making his return with a clean sheet and a victory, Mbokazi will be hoping to build his match fitness and finish the season strongly with Chicago Fire.
