Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Thabo Cele has emerged as a major transfer talking point after reports linked him with a potential move to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Cele’s departure from Kaizer Chiefs was officially confirmed after the player and the club mutually agreed to terminate his contract. The 29-year-old made 36 appearances for Amakhosi and was part of the side that lifted the Nedbank Cup during his time at Naturena.
Now, reports suggest that the midfielder could be set for a dramatic switch to Chloorkop. SABC Sport reported that Sundowns have identified Cele as a high-priority target, with discussions between the two parties believed to be at an advanced stage.
Other reports have gone even further, claiming that Cele has completed his medical and put pen to paper with the reigning African champions, although an official announcement from Mamelodi Sundowns was still awaited at the time of reporting.

If the move is confirmed, it would mark a remarkable turnaround for Cele, who recently found himself out of the plans at Amakhosi. A move to Sundowns would also see him join one of South Africa’s most competitive squads and potentially give him another opportunity to fight for major domestic and continental honours.
The big question now is whether the reports will turn into an official announcement.
Will Thabo Cele be wearing the famous yellow of Mamelodi Sundowns next?
